The Revelation of the Prismatic Retort
Wicander and Tyranny are taken beneath Villa Aurora and shown that Filament is extracted from a chained thirty-foot celestial whom Yanessa identifies as Wicander’s grandfather.
Overview
At sunset, Lord Godard and Enmity lead Wicander and Tyranny beneath Villa Aurora into the hidden Prismatic Retort. War hounds protected by golden eye plates guard the route. Godard removes his blindfold and channels light from his lidless eyes to open what appears to be a monumental sarcophagus but is revealed as an iron maiden. Inside, a thirty-foot featherless celestial is chained and tapped for glowing blood. Photarch Yanessa tells Wicander that the captive is his grandfather, exposing the concealed source of Filament and raising new questions about the Halovar bloodline, Wicander’s powers and the Candescent Creed’s doctrine.
