Critical Role's new Mighty Nein anthology contains nine stories exploring Campaign 2 characters from new perspectives.
The new anthology revisits Campaign 2 through nine stories following friends, foes and other figures affected by the Mighty Nein, including Essek Thelyss, Isharnai, Pumat Sol, Avantika and more.

Released on August 11, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein — Stories Untold shifts the focus away from the adventuring party themselves and onto the people, rivals and other figures whose lives were changed by the Mighty Nein.
That is what makes Stories Untold more interesting than a straightforward return to familiar Campaign 2 territory.
Campaigns naturally move on when the player characters leave a room. Allies return to their own lives. Enemies deal with the consequences. Entire communities continue after the adventurers have disappeared over the horizon.
Stories Untold gets to ask what happened next.
The anthology contains nine stories, each exploring a different character or perspective touched by the Mighty Nein.
The anthology also includes a foreword by Taliesin Jaffe.
Even before the full contents list surfaced, the publisher had already highlighted three stories in particular.
Dani Carr’s “The Fall Will Kill You” follows Essek Thelyss, making it one of the anthology’s most immediately interesting entries for longtime Campaign 2 viewers. Essek remains one of the most consequential supporting characters in the Mighty Nein’s story, and he is exactly the kind of figure whose life extends far beyond the scenes in which the party encountered him.
Kiri Callaghan’s “Delicious” revisits Isharnai, dealing with the aftermath of one of Campaign 2’s most memorable magical humiliations.
Mike Chen’s “Respectfully” returns to Pumat Sol, sending him back to the Invulnerable Vagrant after the battle with Obann, only for his story to continue instead of settling quietly back into normal life.
Those three alone would make the anthology notable. The full contents list makes it even clearer that Stories Untold is interested in a wider sweep of Campaign 2’s orbit, from Dairon and Astrid to Avantika, Marion Lavorre and even Sprinkle.
What makes the anthology compelling is not simply that Campaign 2 now has more stories.
It is that the Mighty Nein are no longer the default point of view.
Characters such as Essek already carried histories and consequences far beyond the moments when the party was physically present. Isharnai’s life did not end when the Mighty Nein walked away from her. Pumat Sol had a shop, relationships and a world to return to after the party moved on.
The original campaign showed those lives only when they intersected with the players.
An anthology built around them has the chance to show the shape the Mighty Nein left behind.
That changes the emphasis.
Instead of asking only what these characters meant to the Mighty Nein, Stories Untold can ask what the Mighty Nein meant to them.
For longtime Campaign 2 viewers, that is a much more interesting proposition than simply revisiting familiar locations or replaying famous moments.
That distinction also makes Stories Untold more editorially significant than a routine Critical Role release.
The anthology is not simply summarising material fans already know. It is new officially published Critical Role fiction involving established Campaign 2 characters and events.
That does not mean every detail should immediately be folded back into campaign-era reference material without context.
Rolling Realm will treat revelations from Stories Untold as material sourced specifically to the anthology, rather than presenting later fiction developments as though they were established during the original Campaign 2 broadcasts.
Once the stories themselves have been assessed, any genuinely significant additions to characters, relationships or lore can be reflected in future coverage with that source distinction preserved.
Critical Role now spans animation, games, comics, novels and other fiction, but Stories Untold has a particularly strong premise because it focuses on characters who rarely got to control the camera.
The Mighty Nein changed people wherever they went.
Sometimes they helped them. Sometimes they hurt them. Sometimes they left behind relationships complicated enough that neither description really works.
Campaign 2 spent years showing us what the Mighty Nein thought of the world.
Stories Untold gets to ask what the world thought of them once they were gone.
