Critical Role Campaign 4 guide
Critical Role Campaign 4 Timeline
Follow the major events and history of Campaign 4, from the conflicts shaping Aramán to Thjazi Fang's execution and the mysteries, political fractures and revelations that follow.
Earlier history
Before Campaign 4
These earlier events help explain the world and relationships Campaign 4 inherits. Dates remain approximate where Episode 1 does not establish a precise chronology.
The Shapers’ War
Campaign 4 opens beneath the Guardian Wall, where monumental statues honour heroes of the Shapers’ War. The conflict is presented immediately as part of Dol-Makjar’s inherited history.
The Death of Sylandri
The scene establishes that Vaelus witnessed Sylandri, described as the last god of Aramán, die seventy years before Campaign 4.
The Falconer’s Rebellion
Azune recognises Teor as a fellow veteran of the Falconer’s Rebellion. Their reunion shows how the conflict still connects people gathering around Thjazi’s death.
The Closing of Faerie
Thaisha says that the door to Faerie remains closed. The reason for the closure remains unresolved.
Campaign chronology
The story so far
This timeline follows the campaign's major turning points rather than every scene. Individual episodes, characters and major events can draw on the same chronology in greater detail.
Campaign 4
Episode 1
Thjazi Fang is executed
Azune tries to trigger what he believes is the escape ward, but the rescue fails and Thjazi Fang is hanged beneath the Guardian Wall. His death becomes the event around which the rest of Episode 1 turns.
Episode evidenceThjazi is brought home for his Farramh
A Farramh is established as an orcish mourning custom in which the body is laid out so loved ones and the community can gather to pay their respects. Azune then brings Thjazi’s body from Brethren Hall to the Fang home.
Episode evidenceThe Photarch insists that Thjazi must die
In a private exchange, Wicander appeals for forgiveness, but the Photarch tells him that Thjazi must die, contradicting Wicander’s expectation that the sentence would be commuted.
Episode evidenceThe real escape glyph is still intact
After Thimble is revived, Azune confirms that the ceramic rune is the completed escape glyph, carrying the conjuration and illusion magic he expected. Thimble remembers masked figures forcing their way into the hideout before she could deliver it to Thjazi.
Episode evidenceThe investigation widens beyond the failed rescue
Kattigan finds crow feathers and other traces that suggest the Crow Keepers were involved in the attack. The Stone of Nightsong has been stolen, and Thimble finds a letter among Thjazi’s belongings bearing the single name Bolaire, widening the mystery beyond a failed rescue.
Episode evidenceThjazi’s Farramh is desecrated
Julien stands over Thjazi’s body, says that his only regret is not being able to watch him die twice, and spits upon the corpse. Bolaire later perceives that the Old Path protection around Thjazi’s body has been crossed; what that transgression means remains unknown.
Episode evidenceThe fate of Sylandri is revealed
Vaelus identifies the stolen relic as the Stone of Nightsong. The scene then establishes that she witnessed Sylandri, described as the last god of Aramán, die seventy years earlier.
Episode evidenceThimble’s name opens the silver box
The moment Thimble’s name is spoken downstairs, Thaisha’s silver box flies open. Shattered ceramic, black clay and black velvet inside begin moving together and form a mask resembling Bolaire’s.
